Usually, we say "Thank God", but you can also say "Thanks, God" (pay attention to the comma) and it is more personal.

Yes, you are right. "Thanks, God" is not correct, but even "Thanks God" is not correct either. The right way to say is "Thank God". Here is one of the explainations of "thank" from Merriam-Webster online dictionary: used in such phrases as "thank God, thank goodness" usually without a subject to express gratitude. I just askked one of my colleagues, she said people usually say "Thank God".

You can give thanks to God by saying "Praise to the Lord", or "Thanks God", or "Thanks the Lord".
