Woodrow Kroll: Death Valley—one of the most hostile climates in the entire United States, perhaps all of North America Death Valley's annual rainfall is less than two inches. Summer temperatures exceed 125 degrees Fahrenheit, a tough place to live.
I'm Woodrow Kroll and for the next minute I want us to look at another valley that's just as difficult to live in. Psalm 23:4 says, "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for you are with me."
Notice this verse doesn't minimize the difficulty of the valley but emphasizes the promise of God's presence in it. We have no reason to fear, friends. Even in death, God is with us.
The Broadway musical The King and I gave us a song that recommends, Whenever I feel afraid I hold myself erect and whistle a happy tune and no one will suspect I'm afraid. Well, that's a nice idea, but it doesn't work. Only the Great Shepherd can safely take us through the darkest valley.
If you're struggling with fear or loneliness today, read God's Word. In the pages of your Bible you'll find all the comfort you'll ever need.
