Woodrow Kroll: We seem to have a little trouble defining pride in our culture. Sometimes pride is viewed as a good thing…
Woman: Cherise, I saw the way you responded when that boy was being mean to you today and I want you to know I'm really proud of you.
Woodrow Kroll: But other times...
Man: I'm afraid I'm going to have to fire Jim. He is so arrogant and proud, nobody can work with him.
Woodrow Kroll: Pride was the foundation of Lucifer's sin in thinking he could be like God. Listen to these words from Isaiah 14. They describe Lucifer's pride and God's response. "I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High," said Lucifer. And God's response, "Yet, you shall be brought down to Sheol, to the lowest depths of the Pit."
Anytime we choose to do things our way rather than God's way, we are guilty of the sin of pride. Anytime we say, "Not Your will be done, but my will be done," we are guilty of pride. God's Word will keep us from pride or pride will keep us from God's Word. Which will it be for you? Don’t let your pride get in the way of God’s blessing. Read your Bible today.
