[face=Arial]Carl Perry, tells a story the following story: Some years ago a youthful violin prodigy emerged from a peasant cottage in Russia. He startled Europe with his genius. But a rival musician began spreading rumors that this boy was not a genius at all, but was fortunate to be in have a rare Stradivarius violin, an instrument that made his fame. On going to London for a concert, he found that the wicked rumor had preceded him. Even the newspaper spread the rumor. On concert night the youth playedthrough his program with mounting enthusiasm from his audience, his performance being superb. He refused to leave the platform during the whole concert, and as he concluded his program he smashed the violin on his knee and threw it to the floor. Calling to an attendant for his Stradivarius, he played a final number, which swept the audience into a great ovation, for they then realized he had played his marvelous concert on an inferior instrument.[/face]
