Woodrow Kroll: I'm Woodrow Kroll and this is the Bible Minute. You know the goal of some people is to be self-sufficient.
Voice 1: Yes, sir! We have solar panels for electricity and a well for water. We have a big garden and raise a few animals. I'd say we're pretty self-sufficient. Nothing else we need.
Voice 2: How about sun, rain and air.
Voice 1: (as if first time he's thought of this) Well…those would be good.
Woodrow Kroll: True self-sufficiency is just an illusion, isn't it! We can do everything we can, but only God can totally provide for us. Only God is truly self-sufficient.
Many false religions in the Old Testament created gods who depended on worshipers to provide food for them through sacrifices.
But the One True God says in Psalm 50:12-13, "If I were hungry, I would not tell you; for the world is Mine, and all its fullness. Will I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats?” The obvious answer is "No!" Unlike those false gods, our God doesn't need anything to survive. He is completely self-sufficient.
That's why it's amazing that He chooses to love us. We are so dependent and He is so independent. We are not self-sufficient and He is. Yet He loves us and gave His Son to shed His blood and pay the penalty for our sin. It's amazing, isn't it?
To find out more or to learn how to begin a relationship with Him, read your Bible. That's where you'll discover God's sufficiency for your insufficiency. Enjoy Him today by reading His Word.
