Joe: (yelling above music) Ah...excuse me, George....George!! Can you turn that music down just a bit.
George: (Yelling back) Speak up, neighbor! My music's too loud!
Woodrow Kroll: Sound familiar? Neighbors can sometimes be a problem. Actually, they can be downright troublesome. So how should a Christian respond to an annoying neighbor? The natural response is to smack 'em right back—only harder. Maybe turn up your radio so loud he can't hear his own. But that wouldn't solve anything would it?
Romans 13:10 reminds us, "Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law."
It's pretty clear that the Bible forbids us from taking neighborly revenge, no matter how badly we want to get back. The right response is to LOVE our neighbors. Jesus quoted Scripture when He said, "We're to love our neighbors as ourselves" [Luke 10:27].
That's easier said than done, isn't it? But that's why God sends His Holy Spirit to help us and why he gave us His Word to guide in life's relationships. Whether it's trouble with neighbors or trouble at home, you'll find a solution in God's Word. |
