Woodrow Kroll: Abuse. We hear a lot about it today because we live in an abusive age. So how are Christians to relate to abusive people? Proverbs 10:9 reminds us, "He who walks with integrity walks securely, But he who perverts his ways will become known."
It's an interesting verse, especially when you consider that most of today's abuse goes on in secret. Yet the Bible assures us that those who abuse will eventually be known by their sin. In the same breath, the Scriptures assure us that if we walk with integrity, we will walk securely.
The best reaction to abuse? First be certain that we are walking with integrity. That's key. Then, if you know an abusive person, find them help. Talk to your pastor. Find out who else may help this person. And don't forget God's Word as a revealing instrument of light. Ultimately, only the Bible can convict an abuser of sin and provide hope of healing and forgiveness. |
