Woodrow Kroll: You and I live in a world of sounds, sounds that annoy. SFX: Telephone busy signal Woodrow Kroll: Sounds that amuse. SFX: Circus calliope Woodrow Kroll: But no sound is sadder than this.... SFX: Crying child Woodrow Kroll: A crying child touches our hearts like nothing else. What could be sadder than an orphan in distress? Children who've lost their parents have a special place in God's eyes. And they should have a special place with us as well. Isaiah 1:17 commands, "Learn to do good; seek justice...defend the fatherless." And in James 1:27 we're told, "Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble." The bottom line? God intends that orphans—and anyone who is oppressed—be the object of our special love and protection. We are commanded to build relationships with them and to care for their needs. Why should we do this? Because that's what the Bible tells us to do. Why not read it for yourself? Check out both Isaiah 1:17 and James 1:27. Discover God's practical truth that cares for a hurting world.
