Woodrow Kroll: Life has many experiences that leave us brokenhearted: the loss of a child, the unfaithfulness of a spouse, the destruction of a cherished dream. When such tragedy strikes, what can we do?
I'm Woodrow Kroll and this is the Bible Minute. Jesus knew what it meant to experience anguish. He was betrayed by a close friend. He endured a false trial. And He suffered the torturous pain of hanging on a cross.
Where did He turn? Matthew 27:46 tells us Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?" that is, "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?"
In the midst of His anguish, Jesus knew who to turn to. He cried out to His Heavenly Father. The scripture quoted in Matthew is actually first found in Psalm 22, which goes on to say, "Our fathers trusted in You; they trusted, and You delivered them" [Psalm 22:4].
Jesus, though in anguish, still put His trust in God. And so can you. The comfort of God is as near to you as His Word. Ask Him to help you bear your anguish. He will, if you ask Him. |
