Woodrow Kroll: Have you ever had people say...
Man's Voice: Yes, I know exactly how you feel.
Woodrow Kroll: …when you know they don't have a clue how you really feel? It’s difficult to understand what others are going through if we haven't gone through a similar experience. Sympathy is the ability to share the feelings of another. It’s knowing what others are feeling and supporting them in those feelings.
The apostle Paul understood sympathy when he talked about forgiveness. He reminded the Ephesians that they must forgive others because they’d been forgiven themselves. Chapter 4 verse 32 says: "Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ also forgave you."
As Christians, we know what it’s like to be forgiven so we should be sympathetic to those who need our forgiveness. We must understand their pain and forgive their wrongs. If God's grace has been freely poured out upon you, do the same to others. Learn to sympathize; learn to forgive. Check out God's Word today and be reminded of His grace to you, then be tenderhearted and forgiving to those who share your world. |
