Woodrow Kroll: Have you heard the old melodrama between the young maiden, the villain and the hero? Villain: You must pay the rent! Maiden: I can't pay the rent! Villain: You must pay the rent! Her I'll pay the rent. Maiden: My hero! Woodrow Kroll: Well, that’s the way the story typically goes. However, if the script were written today, the hero might say... Her I'd love to help but I'm terribly busy, and with all these lawsuits today one must not rush in to help. Woodrow Kroll: Sad, isn't it? Most people take little time to empathize with someone else's pain. This is Woodrow Kroll and in today’s Bible Minute we want to focus on the prophet Elisha. His behavior recorded in 2 Kings 4:27 provides a wonderful example of how we should respond to those who are hurting. When a woman in need came and grabbed Elisha by the ankle, others were ready to send her away. But Elisha responded, "Let her alone; for her soul is in deep distress." Elisha knew this woman needed someone to empathize in her hour of pain. Not only did he identify with her, he eventually took care of her need by raising her child from the dead. Pick up your Bible and read this story in 2 Kings 4. Then learn to care for those in your world.
