Operator: You’ve reached the psychiatric hot line. If you’re having a panic attack, press one quickly before things get worse. If you’re feeling obsessive and anxious, press 7 repeatedly. If you just feel worthless and insecure, stay on the line and we’ll get to you after we talk with the really important people.
Woodrow Kroll: How would you like to get help from an answering service like that? We all worry about things from time to time. We feel so overwhelmed by anxiety that we may be tempted to call a psychiatric hot line.
But the Bible provides a better answer for anxiety. In Luke chapter 10, verse 40, Martha was troubled and distracted by the pressures of life. Jesus urged her to focus only on one thing, that which mattered most: time with Him. The word anxiety in the Bible means distraction, and life is filled with tons of distractions. Jesus said, "Don’t worry about things around you." Cast your eyes on Him and He will give you rest.
Will you do that? Will you spend time alone with the Savior in God’s Word today? Let me challenge you to read your Bible and watch your anxieties simply melt away. Find the focus you need in God’s Word.
This Bible Minute with Woodrow Kroll is a ministry of Back to the Bible, encouraging you to seek spiritual wisdom from the Book of Life.
