Sam: Harry, you know I might not make it.
Harry: I know. The doctor says your heart’s not good.
Sam: I’ve been thinking of the fights we’ve had and some of the things we’ve said to each other. I want you to know…I forgive you. Can you forgive me?
Harry: Sure, Tom, I forgive you.
Sam: Thanks. Harry, one more thing.
Harry: What?
Sam: If I live, none of this counts.
Woodrow Kroll: Some of us are like that, aren’t we? We have a hard time giving up old grudges. The worst thing that can happen, though, is when old grudges turn into a lifetime of hatred. That’s not the way God wants us to live. 1 John 2:9 reads, "He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now." God doesn’t want us to walk in darkness. He wants us to walk in the light of Christ’s love.
If you’re struggling with hateful feelings toward someone else, you need to resolve them. Begin by reading the Gospel of John. You’ll learn about God’s love for you. Then let the love of God fill your heart so there’s no room for anything else. Experience God’s forgiveness, His love and His mercy. Read your Bible.
