SFX: Thunder. Woodrow Kroll: There's something about the sky just before a thunderstorm. Foreboding. Dark, thick clouds. But what about after the storm? The skies clear and the ominous threat is gone. I'm Woodrow Kroll and that picture describes the forgiving nature of God. The Bible reminds us that our selfish choices create black ominous clouds between a holy God and us. Unlike a thunderstorm that eventually blows over, the dark clouds of our sin remain forever...until we seek God's forgiveness. Fortunately, it's God's character to forgive freely. In Isaiah 44:22, the forgiving God says, "I have blotted out, like a thick cloud, your transgressions, and like a cloud, your sins. Return to Me, for I have redeemed you." Our modern use of the word "blot" is quite different from what Scripture intends. It actually means to obliterate or to abolish. To blot out sin is to forgive it fully and finally, which is precisely what God loves to do. If you want to learn more about God's forgiving character, why not open your Bible. Read Isaiah 44:22 and see what God has done for you. He's ready to forgive, if you only ask Him.
