Girl: Dad, where does God live?
Dad: Well, He lives in heaven.
Girl: Where is heaven?
Dad: Somewhere out there, I guess.
Girl: My teacher said God is present everywhere all the time.
Dad: Yes, that's true.
Girl: Then is heaven everywhere all the time too?
Dad: Well, I guess, sort of...well, not really.
Woodrow Kroll: Tough questions, aren't they? So how do you answer them? I'm Woodrow Kroll and this is the Bible Minute.
A helpful word in understanding God is the word "transcendent." God is transcendent. That means He's outside of the universe. It's not a term of location but rather a level of being. God is at a totally different level of existence than all that He has created. Genesis 1:1 reminds us, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." The only way for God to create the universe is if He is outside it.
This aspect of God is tough to comprehend. But there's one place you can go to help you understand Him better. That's His Word—the Bible. I challenge you to open your Bible today and learn all that you can about the God who is transcendent, outside His universe and Creator of it. That's a God worth knowing.
