There are times in life when we find ourselves in the teeth of a storm. Around us swirl the winds of adversity. Threatening clouds cover the sky. Waves of turmoil and anxiety break over us, and we feel as if we are about to be swept into the dangerous breakers that loom nearby. We feel tossed about like a small boat in a typhoon. It is then that, like Peter sinking in the stormy sea, we need to look not at the waves that are engulfing us, but at our Lord who is reaching out to us with outstretched hand. The Lord is greater than the storm. The storm is there only that we may draw closer to Him. His hand can lift you up. His word can still the storm. Look to the Lord. Hear the words of Jesus:
"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." (John 14.27)
