Woodrow Kroll: I'm Woodrow Kroll and this is the Bible Minute. What would happen if some of the worst people from other time periods would visit our planet today? Can you imagine the conversation as they compared cultures?
Sodom Man: (with pride) Without a doubt, we Sodomites were the most corrupt culture of all time. We defined the phrase "sexual immorality."
Nazi Man: (greater pride) You think you were bad boys. Nazi Germany…now that was corruption.
Roman Man: (greatest pride) You guys are pathetic. Ancient Rome was where the action was. We killed Christians and drank their blood. Beat that.
Woodrow Kroll: It's seems that through all of history, there have been corrupt cultures. Which was worst? It's hard to say. One thing I know, the natural bent of man is evil. Judges 21:25 sums up what seems to be true of many cultures, "In those days… everyone did what was right in his own eyes."
In other words, men and women were left to define their own morality. The result? Well, in the Book of Judges we read about deceit, prostitution, gang rape and murder. Sounds a lot like today, doesn't it? If you want to keep our culture from "doing what's right in its own eyes," defining its own morality, then you have to allow God to define morality His way.
He does that, you know, in the book we call the Bible. It's God's Word and it defines morality pretty clearly. We need to know how God defines it and then, for our own benefit, follow His morality. If you want to know what God thinks, you have to read His Word. In the Bible you will discover how God views morality and what you can do to live in a way that pleases Him. It's worth the read today.
