SFX: Crowd mingling noises
Brother: Jerry, I know dad kept you a part of this family even though you didn't deserve it. I just want you to know since dad's no longer with us…you're no longer welcomed here.
Woodrow Kroll: Wow! Can you imagine being so despised that even your own family would kick you out? That'd be pretty tough. So how would you handle it?
There was a man in the Bible who suffered just such an indignation. His name was Jephthah and his brothers no longer wanted him to be a part of the family. Why? Judges 11:1 says, "Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty man of valor, but he was the son of a harlot." Jephthah's brothers kicked him out because he was not the son of their mother but of a prostitute. How did he handle it?
At first he hung out with a gang of worthless men. But eventually he realized this would ruin his life. So he chose to trust God. As a result, God used Jephthah and he ended up in Hebrews 11, the Faith Hall of Fame.
Sometimes life's circumstances are completely out of our control. That's when we choose to trust God and His Word. If you're suffering from a difficult situation today, open your Bible and read the story of Jephthah in Judges 11. Take heart. Discover what God can do through your life if you just trust Him.
