Hebrews 12:5-11 ( NRSV ) And you have forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as children---“ My child, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, or lose heart when you are punished by him; for the Lord disciplines those whom he loves, and chastises every child whom he accepts.” Endure trials for the sake of discipline, God is treating you as children, for what child is there whom a parent does not discipline? If you do not have that discipline in which all children share, then you are illegitimate and not his children. Moreover, we had human parents to discipline us, and we respected them. Should we not be even more willing to be subject to the Father of spirits and live? For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share his holiness. Now, discipline always seems painful rather than pleasant at the time, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

希伯来书：12:5-11:你们忘记了上帝怎样用劝勉儿子的话劝勉你们,　说：我的儿子啊，要留心主的管教，不要因他的责备而灰心；因为主管教他所爱的每一个人，鞭打他所收纳的每一个儿子。你们要忍受管教，因为你们受管教是表示上帝待你们像儿子一样。岂有儿子不受父母亲管教的？管教原是众子所共受的，你们若不受管教，就不是真儿子，而是私生的。
我们有生身的父母亲管教我们，我们仍然尊敬他们。何况万灵的父，我们岂不更当顺服他而得生吗？ 肉体的父母亲随着自己的意思暂时管教我们；但是，上帝的管教是为了让我们得好处，要使我们有份于他的圣洁。凡管教的事，当时不觉得快乐；反觉得愁苦，可是后来，那些因受管教而经历过锻练的人能够结出平安的果子，过着正直的生活。
