In New York City one cold
December day, a ten-year-old boy
was standing before a shoe store
on Broadway. He was barefoot,
peering through the window and
shivering with cold. A lady
approached him and questioned
him as to why he was standing
there. “I’m asking God to give
me a pair of shoes,” was the
boy’s reply. The lady decided to
help God out and took the boy
into the store with her. She asked
the clerk to get her a half dozen
pairs of socks for the child. Then
she asked the clerk to bring her a
basin of water and a towel.
This gracious woman took the
little fellow to the rear of the
store and proceeded to wash his
feet and dry them. Afterwards
she put the socks on him and then
purchased a pair of shoes.
Finally, she tied all the remaining
pairs of socks together and gave
them to the boy, saying—“I’m
sure you’ll feel more comfortable
now.”
As she turned to leave, the
astonished lad caught her by the
--29--
hand and, looking at her with
tears in his eyes, asked, “Are you
God’s wife?” |
