SFX: The sound of several voices calling for help. A girl comes running to the rescue...half out of breath and says...
Girl: I'm coming, I'm coming!
Voice 1: It's quicksand and we're sinking.
Girl: Here, grab this stick and I'll just...wait a minute...I'm slipping…let go or I'll...
SFX: plop
Everyone: Help...help...
Woodrow Kroll: It all started with one person in quicksand. Then those who came to rescue got too close and (plop). The same thing can happen with us. Paul warns in Galatians 6:1,
"If a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in the spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted."
Paul was warning the rescuer not to be careless and fall into the quicksand too. When someone is involved in sin, we need to try to rescue them but only if our lives are on solid ground. Too many would-be rescuers, with the best of intentions, have ended up in the quicksand because they weren't as strong as they thought. Beware! Rescuing sinners is not a job for the spiritually weak lest one in the quicksand ends up being two.
The Bible is full of warnings that can save us from heartache. There's no other book like it. Read it today.
