Martin: (Angry) You're wrong on that one, Jon!
Jon: No way!
Martin: You're wrong and I can prove it!
Woodrow Kroll: So maybe you CAN prove it. The question is...SHOULD you? This is Woodrow Kroll with today's Bible Minute.
We've all felt that tightness in our stomach when someone intensely disagrees with us. It's worse when you honestly know you have the truth on your side. What do you do then? The Bible is so practical; it covers every scenario we could face. Proverbs 17:27 says, "He who has knowledge spares his words, and a man of understanding is of calm spirit."
Notice the verse points out that you indeed are able to prove your point. You may have the facts—the intellectual or moral upper hand. Even so, the Bible advises us to "spare our words." More than that, we should be people of "understanding"—people of "a calm spirit."
That's good advice when someone disagrees with you. There's wisdom for every tricky relationship you'll ever encounter in the pages of your Bible. Take a closer look at Proverbs for starters? |
