SFX: Sound of men working, sound of distant gunfire/cannon, slowly getting louder
Captain: Almost finished, General, a couple more hours and we'll have this fortress completed.
General: Good work, Captain.
Captain: By the way, sir, what is the purpose of our mission here?
General: Why it's to rescue those wounded in the battle.
Captain: I'm not sure I understand. Why did we build this fortress? Don't we have to go out in the battle to rescue the wounded?
General: Are you crazy, Captain? There's a battle going on. I could get hurt. If the wounded want help, they'll have to come to us in the safety of our fortress.
Woodrow Kroll: Some rescue mission. While the wounded lay bleeding, the General is sipping tea in the safety of his fortress. Sound familiar? In John 17:15 Jesus prayed, "I do not pray that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one." Jesus didn't want his disciples locked in a fortress.
They had a job to do. The same is true for us today. We can't rescue the wounded if we won't leave the safety of our fortress. There are wounded who are depending on us.
