Woodrow Kroll: I'm Woodrow Kroll and this is the Bible Minute. Webster defines the word "distress" as a pain or suffering that affects the body or mind. In the Old Testament Book of 2 Samuel, King David was really distressed. The child he had fathered by Bathsheba was very ill. We're told in chapter 12, "David therefore pleaded with God for the child, and David fasted and went in and lay all night on the ground."
David was in extreme distress, but he knew where to turn. He turned to God. Now that didn't mean everything changed. In fact, verse 18 says that "on the seventh day it came to pass that the child died."
Things didn't work out as David hoped, but he knew God was with him. And how did the king react? "David arose from the ground, washed...and changed his clothes and...went into the house of the LORD and worshipped."
God doesn't promise that everything will turn out the way we want it to. But He does promise He'll carry us through. You'll discover that promise and others like it in His Word. Find the comfort you need for your distress. Read your Bible every day. You'll be glad you did. |
