SFX: Sound of whips and chains and hard work...
Slave Owner: Keep it moving.
Girl: Mamma, will we ever be free again?
Mom: Have faith, boy, they can enslave our bodies but not our faith.
Slave Owner: You there! Quit talking and keep working.
SFX: Whip.
Woodrow Kroll: Slavery has been a part of human history throughout the ages. It's a hideous practice that diminishes the value of people. Did you know, however, the greatest enslavement of all time isn't even mentioned in a history book? I'm Woodrow Kroll with today's Bible Minute.
History's greatest enslavement is the wretched enslavement to sin of every single person on earth. Enslavement of the body is for a season, but enslavement of the soul can be forever. There is a solution, however. Galatians 3:13 says, "Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us."
To redeem means to purchase from slavery. Jesus bought us from the slave market of sin to set us free. The purchase price? He became a curse for us. He died in our place that we might go from slaves to children of God. He purchased us with His blood so we might experience freedom in Christ.
Open your Bible to the New Testament and read the Book of Romans. You'll quickly learn what it means to be set free. God will remove your chains as you read and trust in His Word.
