SFX: Dungeon ambience—dripping water, chains clank, rats squeak. But in the background soft singing is heard
Prisoner 1: Hear that? That's those guys they dragged in here a few hours ago.
Prisoner 2: You see 'em when they came in? They got the whip....
Prisoner 1: Yeah...they looked horrible.
Prisoner 2: And now they're singing in prison!
Prisoner 1: (Incredulous) What is it with these guys?
Woodrow Kroll: You have to stop and wonder what made Paul and Silas sing while in prison. They'd been falsely accused, beaten with a Roman cat-of-nine-tails, dragged into a dark prison and left to die. But after all that, they sang praises to God. Why? Well, I'm Woodrow Kroll with an answer on today's Bible Minute.
No doubt Paul and Silas sang because they knew the true source of joy. No matter what their situation, God was in their hearts. They understood Psalm 16:11 which says, "You [God] will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy."
Maybe you're experiencing something really difficult in your life right now. Where do you turn? Who can help you? You turn the same place Paul and Silas did. You turn to God and His Word.
But, hey, don't take my word for it...get into your Bible and check out Psalm 16:11 for yourself! When you read your Bible, you'll find joy in the presence of God. Find some joy today.
