Idolatry

[B]Woodrow Kroll: [/B] I'm Woodrow Kroll and this is the Bible Minute. What comes to mind when you think of 'idolatry'? We usually envision figurines made of wood or metal that people bow down to and worship. That certainly was a problem in the land of Israel. In Judges 18 the tribe of Dan sent out five spies to check out the people. When they came back with their report, Judges 18:14 says, "Then the five men…said to their brethren, 'Do you know that there are in these houses… idols, a carved image, and a molded image? Now therefore, consider what you should do.'" The people were committing sin. They broke the very first commandment, "You shall have no other gods before Me" (Exodus 20:3). And God had to judge them. Now most people today would say, "I don't have idols in my house." And perhaps that's true in the sense of graven images. But anything or anyone that becomes more important to us than God becomes an idol. How about you? Are there things that are more important to you than God? For example—God only wrote one book, the Bible. When was the last time you read it? Have you ever read the only book God wrote all the way through, even one time? See how easy it is for something to become more important to us than God? Don't get caught in idolatry. Read God's Word today. It will change your life.
