Good Friday is upon us. It is ironic to call such a day full of pain and betrayal and suffering good. Good Friday is only good because Christ's death paid the price for our forgiveness and brings us hope and new life. Good Friday is good because God showed the magnitude of his love for us in the magnitude of the suffering he went through for us. Good Friday is also good because neither suffering or death was the end-God's power of resurrection and hope and new life broke through the dark clouds like sun bursting through the clouds. God's power is still at work in us, forgiving us, and bringing new hope and new life. Good Friday reminds us that no matter how dark the day or painful the suffering, that the final word is not pain or suffering but hope. If you stand in a place that seems dark and hopeless -remember what the old preacher said, it may be Friday, but Sunday is coming.
(verse of the week)
God so loved the world that He gave his only Son that whoever would believe on him would not perish but have eternal life. (John 3.16)
