Dear Xi Peng
Thanks for your email. Let me answer each of your questions in turn:
1] Jesus was named Jesus firstly because it was a command from God through
the angel to both Mary, in Luke 1: 31, and to Joseph in Matthew 1: 21. Jesus
is a form of the name Joshua. The meaning of the name Joshua, or Jesus, is
Jehovah is salvation, that is: "Saviour".It was also a common name among
Jews at that time.
2] The reference for "I am the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End"
is in Revelation 21: 6. Alpha is the first letter [character] in the Greek
alphabet and Omega is the last.It is used there to emphasise that in Jesus
everything is completed. this means that there is nothing more left to do to
fulfill God's plan. In fact in that verse 21, He says; "It is done." It is
simililar to when Jesus says "It is finished" on the cross in John 19: 30.
He meant there, that His death had dealt completely with our sin; nothing
more needed to be done.
3] 'Genesis'is the Greek equivalent to the Hebrew word 'bereshith'which
means "in the beginning". So Genesis [from the Greek "geneseos"] describes
the contents of the book. It is a book of "beginnings". The link with Jesus
is in His involvement in the Creation; the "beginning", as God the Son [See
the New Testament in Colossinas 1: 15-17].
4] The last book of the Bible is "Revelation". The Greek name is
"Apokalupsis", from which we get the English word "Apocalyse". It actually
means "Revelation", or an "unveiling of something that was hidden". It has a
deep meaning. For it is not only something that is "seen", but also
something that comes as an interpretation of what is seen. So, Revelation
not only shows us God's plan, like on a 'blueprint'or a diagram, but it also
interprets His plan. This is so we can understand what God's plan is. It is
God's blueprint for the moment when time and history will finally end and
God's eternal kingdom will finally begin. So when Jesus says, "I am the
Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End"; he means that just as He
was involved when time began, so He will be involved when time ends. Jesus
is central to both. It gives us a picture of what happens in our life
too.For as Jesus is central to our beginning in our new life as a Christian.
so He is central to our end, as we enter heaven only because of faith in
Him.
5] Jude is just another form of Judah,or Judas. The writer of the Book of
Jude is possibly Jesus' brother Judas, who is mentioned in Matthew 13: 55
and Mark 6: 3. He is NOT Judas Iscariot who betrayed Jesus. There is no
direct link with Revelation, which was written by John the Apostle. He also
wrote John's Gospel and the three Letters of John in the New Testament. I
think, however, that if you read the final verses 24-25 of Jude, He
certainly looks forward to the time when Jesus Christ will be 'revealed'.
I hope that these explanations have been helpful. If you want any further
information, let me know.
I will certainly pray for Ms Wenli Jing and include her on our Prayer list
for the Church.
Blessings,
Pastor Frank. |
